The Local Buying Foundation is pleased to announce partial sponsorship funding for a new initiative led by ICN: Preparing Pilbara Businesses for the Net Zero Economy. This timely and impactful workshop series will support small to medium-sized enterprises in the Town of Port Hedland and the Shire of East Pilbara as they navigate the transition to a low-carbon future.

ICN is a well-established organisation with a strong track record in supporting Australian businesses. Under the leadership of Dr Vanessa Rauland, ICN is delivering a climate-focused education and upskilling program tailored to the unique needs of regional suppliers. The organisation has demonstrated financial stability, governance, and leadership capacity to deliver this initiative effectively.

The workshop series will consist of four sessions, and will be held across Port Hedland and the Shire of East Pilbara. The sessions aim to:

  • Demystify climate and ESG-related reporting requirements
  • Provide practical tools for compliance and adaptation
  • Ensure regional businesses are not left behind in the net-zero transition

This initiative is especially timely given the introduction of mandatory climate reporting legislation in January 2025. Many suppliers are currently struggling to understand and respond to these new demands, and this program will help bridge that gap.

This project has been assessed under the Sponsorship of Business Awards, Conferences and Business Events category and meets all mandatory criteria for LBF funding

. It aligns with LBF’s strategic priorities by:

  • Supporting eligible regional communities
  • Promoting inclusive access for all businesses in the region
  • Delivering clear outcomes and deliverables
  • Addressing a critical and emerging need in the business landscape

This initiative is a targeted response to a rapidly evolving regulatory and economic environment and reflects the Local Buying Foundation’s commitment to supporting regional resilience, innovation and sustainability.

We look forward to seeing the positive impact this program will have on local businesses and their readiness for a net-zero future.
